Storm

And now, as they say, for something completely different. I heard about this at a boozy dinner last Monday night and tracked it down on Youtube. I’m a bit late onto this gem, but I love it. See what you think. It’s by the brilliantly talented Tim Minchin. Oh, and there’s some (actually quite a lot of) off-colour language in it, so if that bothers you then please listen with earplugs in.

    Not sure if you’ve heard of this, but thought you would appreciate it as it’s something a bit different;

    Symphony of Science; “designed to deliver scientific knowledge and philosophy in musical form”

    The videos with Sagan seem to be the best!!

  2. That was beautiful. Thank you Prof. Coles.

    Excellent stuff from Mr Minchin: spot on and delivered at exactly the right level of drollery.

    I quite like the Symphony of Science videos too (thanks, Calum), although wish that the first one I picked hadn’t conflated Carl Sagan’s poetry with Cox’s mundanities (“space is reeeallly big”): the latter is no heir of the former, in my humble opinion.

    Sagan’s Pale Blue Dot treatise, rediscovered by me recently thanks to this blog, remains one of the most erudite things I have ever heard.

  4. I’ve just heard that Tim Minchin is doing a Prom concert this year. http://www.royalalberthall.com/tickets/bbc-proms/prom40/default.aspx
