Im Frühling
We’re enjoying a spell of perfect weather at the moment, so I’m going to be out most of the afternoon enjoying the flowers and trees in Bute Park. I assume I’m not in danger of being run over by a lorry speeding along the paths, since I don’t think they work on Sundays. Anyway, BBC Radio 3 is devoting the period until the end of March to a “Spirit of Schubert” festival, so I thought I’d join in by posting an appropriately seasonal ditty. This is Im Frühling (D. 882) (“In Spring”), sung by Peter Pears with piano accompaniment by Benjamin Britten way back in 1950. Gives me a lovely glow inside listening to this. I hope you feel the same..

A nice performance of a very nice song.
However, once again, Google overlaid the video with an advertisement for “Dating Chinese Lady – 10000 Beautiful Chinese Lady Here – Join Now or She’ll be Other’s GF!”
I thought Google tried to select appropriate advertisements?

I can’t imagine most people looking at a clip of a Schubert song will be particularly interested in international dating services.

On the hand, perhaps Schubert would have made use of such a service had it been available in Vienna in the early 19th century.

I’m pretty sure that neither Peter Pears nor Benjamin Britten would have been interested, however…

I was trying to avoid writing anything like that, or suggesting that the dating advert might have been inappropriate for that particular reason. 🙂
