May Day

A delicate fabric of bird song
Floats in the air,
The smell of wet wild earth
Is everywhere.

Oh I must pass nothing by
Without loving it much,
The raindrop try with my lips,
The grass with my touch;

For how can I be sure
I shall see again
The world on the first of May
Shining after the rain?

  1. What a great poem for today. I have just walked to work in the rain – through Primrose Hill and Regent’s Park and really enjoyed it. Jumping over puddles and stopping to watch a swan bathe. Beats the tube any day.

      I would have done that too, but Regent’s Park is a bit out of my way.

      There are swans in the Taff, however. Including a black one.
