Cricket Quiz
Too lazy to do a proper post today, I though I would try a little cricket quiz. This legendary cricketer featured in today’s Independent Prize Cryptic. Can you put a name to the face?

Ted Peate. Though had to find independent cryptic clue to help. Yorkshire cap helped. Slightly less obvious than some of the more famous late 19th century Yorkies (who were from the midlands of course) like Bobby Peel and Lord Hawke.

That’s the moustache…

It’s not just the moustache, although that helps. There’s a considerable resemblance. I wonder if Peate was out lbw to an Aussie paceman who swings it too?

He was clean bowled for 2. Peate was actually a left arm orthodox spinner, but he only had a short Test career. He also died young, at the age of 45.

Ps. I am sure you will know that Peate’s was the last English wicket to fall in Australia’s first ever test win against England…
