Swinging on the Säckpipa

And now for something completely different.

This is Swedish musician Gunhild Carling out front of a swinging big band on the open-air stage at Central Park, New York, tearing it up on the bagpipes*.

You’re welcome.

(*to  be precise these are a kind of traditional Swedish bagpipes known as the säckpipa).

  1. That was brilliant thanks for sharing! (Wonder if it would have worked so well with the Northumberland pipes? They give such a gentle sound!)

There are many types of bagpipe in Sweden. The term säckpipa does indeed mean bagpipe in Swedish but is used in English to describe a specific kind of Swedish bagpipe from the Dalarna region.
