Since it is rumoured that the BBC has decided to axe Top Gear, it’s fortunate that James May has an alternative career as Chief Executive of the Science and Technology Facilities Council. Still, all that experience of things crashing and burning seems to have stood him in good stead..

I’m not sure they’ve decided to axe it, but they were thinking about it. It is probably just wishful thinking on my part.

Anyway, why would you wish a show that brings happiness to so many people to be axed? If you don’t like it don’t watch it (as I am sure you don’t). You sounded positively ‘daily mailian’ in that comment.

I think it’s Daily Mail readers that watch it….
I don’t like the programme because I fear it encourages certain drivers to speed, consistently mocks environmentalists, and panders to feeble-minded macho stereotypes. I’d like to see it axed so the BBC could spend my license fee making more programmes about Opera.

Daily Mail readers liking something on the BBC? Surely that’s treasonous, the BBC is there to be attacked, not enjoyed!
Why not scrap your TV, don’t pay a license fee and go to the opera some more – that way opera benefits from your money!

I’ve been thinking of doing precisely that for some time. I hardly ever watch TV so I don’t know why I am paying the fee. For a change, I watched Horizon last night – didn’t exactly change my mind!

That’s precisely what makes it great entertainment. You don’t have to *agree* with it, and it’s a refreshing change after some of the PC attitudes knocking around the Beeb.
Speed limits need finer management. Some should be lowered, some should be raised.
