Astronomy Look-alikes, No. 25

One of the best things about having visiting seminar speakers here in Cardiff is that they often tend to bring ideas for my astronomy look-alike series with them.  One of the best I’ve had for a while was suggested last night over dinner with yesterday’s speaker.

I wonder how many of you have noticed the similarity – tonsorial issues apart – between cheeky boy Rob Ivison and former Liberal Democrat Member of Parliament Lembit Opik? I wonder if by any chance they might be related?

Incidentally, it might be worth mentioning that Lembit Opik himself has an interesting family connection with astronomy.

  2. Having met assorted wives and girlfriends of both of these gentlemen, I can testify that they both have impeccable taste. However, I can’t help feeling that Rob would still be jealous of Lembit’s cheeky girl!

Oh jeez, that’s about the last think the boy Ivison needs, some kind of flattering admiration of his carnal predilections. According to current cosmological parameters, the Universe is only marginally big enough to contain one of him as it is, without us entering another phase of (ego) inflation …

(Sorry, Rob, but a few wines here this evening on the ESA per diem made me do it … :-))

Dear wife. Ignore these two sour old curmudgeons. I am a saint. 🙂

don’t tell me – were you that waitress?

i don’t recall ever being at Moriond, but the champagne might explain that…

Lembit looks even more like Rob Ivison in that picture.

holy crap – Lembit was impersonating me at French science workshops! no wonder he’s so successful with attractive pop stars.

je ne me rappelle rien, apart from Richard Ellis slapping my wrist for swearing in my talk – you can take the boy out of Blackburn, etc. – the perils of conference bingo.
