Surely neither T. Rex nor Humph performed at the Wales Millennium Centre?
(The Centre opened in late 2004 and Humphrey Lyttelton died in 2008.
T. Rex disbanded in the 1970s I thought.)

I stand corrected. So T. Rex (in some form) could have performed at the Wales Millennium Centre.
And perhaps Humphrey Littelton did too (presumably as a jazz trumpeter, not as a comedy great).

I’m not sure whether Humph played at the WMC. He is unlikely to have filled that venue with his own band, but may well have done so with popular beat combo Radiohead, as Humph’s band played with them on a record..

I’m trying not to turn this into a game from I’m Sorry I Haven’t A Clue.
By the way, Peter, are you writing comments here from within an RAS Council meeting? George Airy and Arthur Eddington didn’t do that.

T Rex without Marc Bolan (who died in 1977) aint T Rex. Phillip, do you know the albums “Beard of Stars” and “Electric Warrior”? I think they are excellent. Beard of Stars was Bolan’s last as Tyrannosaurus Rex (before shortening the name), first with Mickey Finn rather than Steve Took, and first with electric guitar. Electric Warrior was his first after he found success, very commercial but still very listenable. I don’t think much of his droning over acoustic guitar before Beard of Stars, and he ran out of ideas fairly quickly after Electric Warrior (apart from 20th Century Boy). But for a short time he was great. A couple of years ago I thoroughly enjoyed a tribute band gig.

I agree that the best of Marc Bolan was superb, and I was a big fan in the 70s. I had forgotten about Beard of Stars though and must revisit…for reasons which should be obvious!

*Later* T Rex is certainly over-rated, but I think Bolan deserved the fame that his 1970-2 stuff brought him.
