James Webb: the wrong name for a Space Telescope

Following yesterday’s excitement about the new images from the James Webb Space Telescope I thought I’d share this video documentary that explains why the choice of name for this facility is highly inappropriate and should be changed. This is a matter I’ve blogged about previously, in fact, but the video is new.

  1. A lot of us were not too happy about the name. There are people most would agree should not have telescopes named after them. Others are uncontroversial (Rubin, Spitzer). And there many people in between. It would have been better to stay with the uncontroversial ones.

How about the Universe Wide Web telescope? I selflessly volunteer to be flown up there to remove the second ‘b” of Webb and nail a new plaque over the rest.
