Hymn for Today

The hymn chosen for today’s service is No. 296 from Hymns Ancient and Modern For all the saints who from their labours rest. This is usually song on All Saints Day (November 1st) but is topical because of today’s public sector strike. The illustration shows an impressive picket line!

Written by a Shropshire Lad who was for a whle the vicar of Whittington, 8 miles from me, and who went on to be a bishop. The famous tune was written a generation later by Vaughan Williams.
