I’m struck by the remarkable similarity between Dr Marek Kukula, “Public Astronomer” at the Royal Observatory, Greenwich, and Constable Kevin Goody, as played by actor James Dreyfus in the popular situation comedy The Thin Blue Line. I wonder if by any chance they might be related?

Has anyone else noticed the remarkable resemblance between distinguished astrophysicist and space scientist Mike Cruise and Crazy Frog, the computer animated character used to market the ringtones some people have on their mobile hand-held telephonic devices?

Matt Griffin sent this one in, so blame him…

Chairing a PhD examination last week I noticed that the external examiner bore a striking resemblance to the late Steve Jobs (except for the “late” bit of course). To cap it all, I even found pictures of them both wearing the same headgear…

Not related in any way to rumours which probably don’t exist and which even if they did I’d have to deny for legal reasons let me just mention that John Womersley of the Science and Technology Facilities Council reminds me quite a lot of Christopher Biggins:

I’m struck by the remarkable similarity between “author and science communicator” Mr Mark Brake (alias “@ProfMBrake”  on Twitter) and Mr Mark  Brake the disgraced former University of Glamorgan employee who falsely claimed to have a PhD when applying for a grant in 2006 and whose professorship at Glamorgan was terminated in mysterious circumstances in 2010. Old habits clearly die very hard…

I’d say that Professor Subir Sarkar of Oxford University bears more than a passing resemblance to cricketing legend Sir Vivian “Viv” Richards, although I couldn’t comment on whether that extends to his batting ability…

I’m struck by the similarity between cosmologist Alessandro Melchiorri and former Happy Days actor Tom Bosley. I wonder if by any chance they might be related?

I’m struck by the remarkable similarity between cosmologist Will Percival of Portsmouth University and James Murdoch, heir apparent to the disintegrating empire of News International. I wonder if, by any chance, they might be related (to Rupert Murdoch)?

It’s not widely known that the painstaking detective work done by Penzias and Wilson in confirming the extraterrestrial
origin of the excess noise that they measured, and eventually understood to be evidence of the cosmic microwave background radiation, was actually the original inspiration for the 1970s British television police drama, The Sweeney.

If you don’t think astronomer Robert Connon Smith looks like singer Roger Whittaker, I’ll show you something to make you change your mind. I wonder if, by any chance, they might be related?
