This week at Maynooth University numerous parties of schoolkids have been, and are being, shown around the campus. Naturally an important stop on this tour is the abode of Séamus the Library Cat. The weather has been nice this week so far, as it was today, so said feline has generally been out and about and making himself available to be admired. On my way to lunch I managed to bypass a large coach party of schoolgirls and reach the cat’s spot ahead of them. I found Séamus giving himself a good wash and brush-up in anticipation of the arrival of the visitors.

I hadn’t seen Maynooth University Library Cat for a while, so it was nice to see him today, on post, as large as life. Approaching him I saw him receive a number of back scratches. It seems he enjoyed them and continued to present his back to passers-by in the hope of getting more.
Quality Cat

It has come up very quickly; I blogged about the preparations some weeks ago.
Anyway, what with the Quality Review and regular teaching and marking I’m going to be a bit preoccupied for the rest of today and tomorrow. I was in early this morning ahead of the first meeting, and noticed Maynooth University Library Cat was on sentry duty at his usual post:
More surprisingly I learn that said cat now has his own Twitter account, so please give him a follow!
The Open Journal of Astrophysics – Update
Posted in Maynooth, Open Access, The Universe and Stuff with tags Maynooth University Library, Open Access, Open Journal of Astrophysics, open science on October 4, 2018 by telescoperWell, it was a bit fiddly importing the legacy papers from the earlier version of the Open Journal of Astrophysics website to the new platform, but I managed to do it this afternoon as planned. The result looks rather nice, I think,
The only things left to do now are (a) to train the members of the Editorial Board on how to handle the workflow through the journal site and (b) to open up for submission of new papers. Both these steps should be trivial so we’re definitely entering the final stages of this project. There is an event at Maynooth University Library next Tuesday afternoon at which I am doing a talk about Open Science. This will represent the official launch of the Open Journal of Astrophysics.
All we will need then is for people to submit some papers!
